This semester the Texas Center for Equity Promotion (TexCEP) has launched a series of Centering Equity workshops focused on important and relevant topics around health and education.

The second workshop, Where’s the "I" in Research?, will be moderated by Distinguished Teaching Professor Dr. Keffrelyn Brown.

Key Topics Include:

  • What role do you understand researcher identity to play in research?
  • Given the challenges and limitations of the conceptualization and measurement of race/ethnicity, how do I think about my own racial/ethnic identity and how does that impact my work?
  • How does my own racial/ethnic identity interact with my own research interests and the community with which I work?
  • What are some of the opportunities and challenges that come along when our personal identities align with communities with which we work?
  • How do my own identity, positionality and power impact how I work as a researcher? For example: What does it mean to be a white male in the context of the communities in which we work?
  • How do you account for the influence of your identity in the context of your research?

Complimentary boxed lunch for in-person guests.

Registration is required for both the in person and Zoom options.

The workshops are open to all UT Austin students, faculty, staff and members of the community.
